Dean’s Message (Introduction to the Plan)

"Strategic planning is not merely an institutional choice, but rather the compass that guides the College of Medicine at Al-Sibtayn University toward achieving sustainable excellence. Through our international partnership and academic twinning, we endeavor to forge a medical education and research paradigm that matches global standards (WFME), thereby supplying the healthcare sector with physicians and leaders who combine cognitive competence with humanitarian values, contributing actively to the development of healthcare in Iraq and the region."

To be the regionally leading and internationally prominent medical college in Iraq, distinguished in delivering innovative medical education, producing scientific research with practical applications, and providing ultra-high-quality clinical care.

Mission:

Our commitment is to empower 636 students (and future cohorts) through modern and integrated medical curricula, providing a stimulating educational and research environment in partnership with international institutions and advanced teaching hospitals, to serve society and graduate competent physicians with a high sense of humanity.

Strategic Pillars & Goals

The plan is segmented into five core pillars covering all aspects of the academic and clinical process:

Pillar 1: Academic Excellence & Curriculum Development

  • Strategic Goal 1.1: Continuously update the integrated medical curricula in collaboration with Tehran University of Medical Sciences to match the latest global systems.
  • Strategic Goal 1.2: Expand the utilization of the Medical Simulation Center and Problem-Based Learning (PBL).
  • Strategic Goal 1.3: Attain full international program accreditation in accordance with the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) standards.

Pillar 2: Innovative & Translational Scientific Research

  • Strategic Goal 2.1: Establish joint research groups (academic-clinical) focusing on diseases and health priorities within the Iraqi community.
  • Strategic Goal 2.2: Increase the scientific publication rate of faculty members and students in international journals indexed within Scopus and Clarivate databases.
  • Strategic Goal 2.3: Support and fund innovative student research, embedding scientific research methodology as a core foundation across all academic stages.

Pillar 3: Advanced Clinical Training & Health Partnership

  • Strategic Goal 3.1: Enhance the quality of early clinical training for students in the teaching hospitals affiliated with the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain.
  • Strategic Goal 3.2: Implement Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across all educational and clinical laboratories.
  • Strategic Goal 3.3: Develop medical residency programs and specialized fellowships in collaboration with official health institutions.

Pillar 4: Internationalization & Global Partnerships

  • Strategic Goal 4.1: Activate sustainable academic and student exchange programs with global universities and medical centers.
  • Strategic Goal 4.2: Attract international students to foster cultural and academic diversity within the college campus.
  • Strategic Goal 4.3: Organize international medical conferences and specialized workshops periodically at the university.

Pillar 5: Governance, Sustainability & Quality Assurance (QA)

  • Strategic Goal 5.1: Build a digital, sustainable internal quality system to periodically monitor academic and administrative performance.
  • Strategic Goal 5.2: Invest in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for teaching, medical, and administrative staff.
  • Strategic Goal 5.3: Enhance the smart and sustainable infrastructure of the college to ensure a safe and stimulating educational environment.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Measuring Success

To ensure the execution of the plan, success is evaluated annually through the following benchmarks:

  • WFME Accreditation Alignment: Completion rate of the World Federation for Medical Education standards requirements (Target: 100% by the end of the plan).
  • Research Productivity: Number of medical research papers published in Scopus-indexed databases annually per faculty member.
  • Stakeholder Satisfaction: Satisfaction rate of students and clinical staff with the learning environment and teaching hospitals (Target: > 85%).
  • Digital Transformation: Automation and digitalization rate of all academic and administrative processes within the college (Target: 95%).
